The V Encuentro welcomes New Leadership

Robert A. Hurteau, New ENAVE Member

Robert A. Hurteau, Ph.D. is Interim Senior Director of LMU Extension and Director of the Center for Religion and Spirituality (CRS). A former missionary, Dr. Hurteau has greatly expanded offerings in Hispanic theology and ministry, and added programming in interreligious dialogue and African American Ministry since coming to LMU in 2005. He has a PhD in Practical Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. Dr. Hurteau is a member (and past president) of the Association of Professors of Mission, and a volunteer with its sister organization, the American Society of Missiology, currently serving on its board of publications. He is currently a board member and president of the Federation of Pastoral Institutes (Federación de Institutos Pastorales), and a member of the California Catholic Conference (CCC) education committee. Dr. Hurteau recently authored A Worldwide Heart: The Life of Maryknoll Father John J. Considine, a biography on Maryknoll missionary John Considine that offers a look into the U.S. Catholic missionary movement in the twentieth century.

Elisabeth Román, New ENAVE Member

Elisabeth Román is the Director of Hispanic and Ethnic Ministries in the Diocese of Joliet. Since 2014, she has been the President of the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry, a 30-year old organization whose mission is promoting education, advocacy, and leadership. Elisabeth has a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Illinois and has been serving in the Catholic Church and Hispanic Ministry for over 12 years. Elisabeth worked with Claretian Missionaries as managing editor and director of the Hispanic Ministry Resource Center, developing bilingual print and online media and coordinating events for Latinos. In 2013 and 2014, Elisabeth received Catholic Press Awards for her work in journalism. For the past six years, she has organized the People’s Mass at Fiesta del Sol in Pilsen, the largest Latino festival in the Midwest. Elisabeth was the co-coordinator of the V Encuentro Nacional de Ministerio Hispano in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Cesar Quiroz, New Episcopal Regional Chair for Region 7

Cesar Quiroz is a Math teacher and a Software Technician. He has participated in the Disciple of Christ, 3-year program in the Diocese of Green Bay and has chaired the Process Committee for the V Encuentro in the Diocese of Green Bay. He previously served as the secretary and chair for the Process Committee in Region 7. Cesar was a facilitator in the V Encuentro training process for the dioceses of Madison, Rockford and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. At the regional Encuentro he served as the MC and was a facilitator at the national event. He now serves as the new Episcopal Regional Chair for Region 7. Enid Román de Jesus served as Regional Chair since 2015. We thank Enid for her many years of service and wish her much luck in her new position in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston.

Lynette Sáenz, New Episcopal Regional Co-Chair for Region 6

Lynette Sáenz is the Associate Director for the Secretariat for Parish Life and Development for the Diocese of Cleveland. Lynettes has been part of the V Encuentro National Research team and has assisted with the national process. She previously served as a Co-chair for Region 2 and was a Diocesan Coordinator of Cultural Ministries and the Director of the Hispanic Pastoral Institute in the Diocese of Rochester, New York. Prior to this position, Lynette was the Associate Director of Research and Publications for the Instituto Fe y Vida, where she organized focus groups across the country to identify best practices in Hispanic youth ministry. She holds a M.S.W. from the State University of New York in Brockport and an M.A. in Theological Studies from St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry in Rochester, NY. We thank Fr. Ernesto Rodriguez for his commitment and service as the previous co-chair for Region 6.
