Illuminate: Acts 2:1-4

“When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”

Delve into the Word

“The disciples were together in one place… which is very good because it speaks to the unity of the Church; however, it also has the connotation of being together because of fear. The Spirit comes and sends them out to fearlessly proclaim. Live the Word

In what ways have you been scared to go out and meet others in the peripheries?
How can you go beyond your own language and culture?
What challenges has the diversity within your community posed as you were trying to follow the process of the Encuentro?
Did you find yourself at times with feelings of prejudice? How do you ask God to heal those so you are freer to reach out to others?

L / Spirit of God, you remove all our fears to proclaim the Risen Christ.

R / Come and give us your gift of fortitude.

L / Spirit of God, you give us the power to communicate freely with others.

R / Come and give us the gift of wisdom to speak your truth.

L / Spirit of God, you give us the fire to evangelize boldly.

R / Come and send us!

L / Give us, Holy Spirit, the fruits of your presence: joy, peace, generosity, compassion, equanimity, and temperance. Make us the instruments of your life and of your justice. Amen.

Mission – “Getting Involved”

This week, try to attend a liturgical celebration or an event of a culture different from your own. Listen and observe carefully to see the elements that are common to our humanity and our faith, and give thanks for the expressions that are different, because they come from the Spirit who inspires and sends this particular community.
