Follow-Up Sessions: June - Fraternal Love

  1. How do I live in solidarity with those in most need?
  2. Am I attentive to their needs?
  3. What does my heart feel?

Illuminate: 1 John 3:17-22

If someone who has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him? Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. (Now) this is how we shall know that we belong to the truth and reassure our hearts before him in whatever our hearts condemn, for God is greater than our hearts and knows everything. Beloved, if (our) hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in God and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

Delve into the Word

This reading invites us to look inside and listen to our hearts. If we profess that God is love and we have immersed ourselves in the water of his Spirit through baptism, and are made flesh of his flesh through the Eucharist, it means our actions should reflect love and compassion, as the children of God that we are. Look and see if your actions and words are consistent with your feelings and identity as a creature of God. Not only do we need to share what we have in excess, but rather it is important to live with an attitude of solidarity, open to see the needs that exist around us so that we can give not what we have in excess but share our gifts and service for the common good. In this way, we extend the space in our heart and welcome the new things that surround us and that sometimes make us uncomfortable because they require of us to leave behind our daily routine and comfort.
In silence, listen to the voice of Jesus within your heart.
• What can I do to experience the living presence of Christ like the disciples on the road to Emmaus?
• How is my personal contact with Jesus? What does it make me feel? Joy? Sadness? Encouragement? Surprise? Challenged?

Live the Word

What do I share from my lived experience with Jesus?
How do I recognize the living God in my daily life?
How can we awaken and rekindle our sense of solidarity?

L/ God is Love, and he who abides in his love remains in God and God in him.

R/ Help us keep our eyes fixed on you to love you more each day and be an expression of your love for others.

L/ My son, let us not love only in words but with facts and truth.

R/ Help us Lord to let ourselves be touched by your love and be love for those around us.

L/ Love and truth are inseparable.

R/ Help us Lord to live in the truth and not deceive others or ourselves by creating emptiness around us.

L/ We ask you Lord Jesus to help us to remain in Love as you have done in order to be witnesses of your truth and compassion.

Mission – “Getting Involved”
