Onimage May 25, 2016 the Federation for Catechesis with Hispanics, a federation of the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership, elected Miriam Hidalgo as its new president.  Miriam replaces outgoing president Maria Covarrubias, from the Diocese of San Bernardino. Congratulations!

Miriam currently serves as the Coordinator of Catechesis with Hispanics for the Office of Education, Evangelization & Catechesis of the Archdiocese of Hartford, CT. She was born & raised in Providence, Rhode Island; her family is from Guatemala. She has a BA in Youth Ministry from Providence College and a Master’s degree in Religious Education from Boston College. For more than fifteen years she has served in catechetical ministry and youth ministry at the parish and diocesan levels. Currently, Miriam serves as secretary for the New England Conference of Diocesan Directors of Religious Education (NECDDRE); she is a national speaker for the Jesuit Ministry & publisher Loyola Press, and she is the cowriter for the new upcoming document on adolescent catechesis from the National Initiative for Adolescent Catechesis (NIAC). For many years, Miriam has been involved in social justice initiatives through education and advocacy work in areas such as the environment and climate change, human trafficking, animal rights, and many more. Miriam was recently married in October 2015.
